Early Life

Marcin Ryszard Wasilewski was born in Kraków, Poland, where he began his journey in football. He started his senior career at Hutnik Kraków before moving on to play for Śląsk Wrocław and then Wisła Płock. His early years in Polish football laid the foundation for a career that would see him rise to prominence in both domestic and international leagues.

Career

Wasilewski's professional career took off when he joined Amica Wronki in 2005, a club that would soon merge with Lech Poznań. In January 2007, he made a significant move to Belgian side R.S.C. Anderlecht, where he quickly became a key player. During the 2008–09 season, he was the club's third-highest goalscorer, showcasing his versatility as a centre-back. However, his career faced a major setback on August 30, 2009, when he suffered a severe leg injury due to a challenge from Axel Witsel, resulting in an open fracture of both the tibia and fibula. After a long rehabilitation, he made a triumphant return to the pitch in May 2010, scoring in his comeback match.

Wasilewski continued to excel at Anderlecht, earning a new contract and solidifying his status as a club legend. In 2013, he moved to Leicester City F.C., where he contributed to the team's success in the Football League Championship. He later returned to Poland to play for Wisła Kraków until 2020, marking the end of his playing career.

Throughout his career, Wasilewski represented the Poland national team, earning caps from 2002 to 2013.
