Биография

Early Life

Marwin Hitz was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland, where he began his football journey at a young age. He joined his hometown club, FC St. Gallen, at just nine years old, progressing through the youth ranks and playing for the reserve team from 2005 to 2007. Although he was close to breaking into the first team, he remained an unused substitute during his early years.

Club Career

Hitz's professional career took off when he went on loan to Yverdon-Sport FC and then to FC Winterthur during the 2007–08 season, where he established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper. In September 2008, he signed with Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg, where he primarily played for the reserve team but made his first-team debut in a Europa League match against Villarreal. His time at Wolfsburg saw limited opportunities, as he often played behind established goalkeepers.

In 2013, Hitz transferred to FC Augsburg, where he had a notable moment scoring a stoppage-time equaliser against Mainz 05. He continued to develop his skills and reputation as a reliable goalkeeper. In 2018, he joined Borussia Dortmund, further solidifying his place in the Bundesliga.

International Career

Hitz made his international debut for the Switzerland national team on June 10, 2015, in a friendly match against Liechtenstein. He was part of the squad for UEFA Euro 2016, although he did not see any match action during the tournament.

Personal Life

Off the pitch, Marwin Hitz is a family man, having three children with his wife, Patricia. His journey from a young boy in St. Gallen to a professional goalkeeper reflects his dedication and passion for the sport.

Club career

Early career

Born in St. Gallen, Hitz was signed by his hometown club when he was nine years old. He represented the club at youth level, and regularly played for the reserve team from 2005 to 2007. The closest he got to the first team was as an unused substitute in 2005 and 2006. In the 2007–08 season, he went on loan to Yverdon-Sport, and then to Winterthur, ending the season as first-choice goalkeeper at the latter club.

Wolfsburg

On 2 September 2008, Hitz signed for Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg. He mainly played for the reserve team, but he was an unused substitute for two matches in early 2009. He made his debut for the first team in a Europa League match against the Spanish team Villarreal, and made his Bundesliga debut in a match against Schalke 04. While at Wolfsburg, he initially deputised for André Lenz and then mid-season signing Diego Benaglio, who he failed to displace. In fact, the six appearances he made during the 2010–11 season (his personal best at the club), was due to Benaglio tearing his abductor muscle and later, not being in the squad.

Augsburg

Hitz joined FC Augsburg in the summer of 2013. On 29 March 2014, Mainz 05's Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting had a shot that was deflected by Matthias Ostrzolek, which Hitz tipped away onto the post. Ostrzolek, under pressure from Nicolai Müller, tried to clear the rebound, but it caught Hitz in the face, resulting in an own goal. On 21 February 2015, Hitz scored a stoppage-time equaliser…
