Masanobu Izumi

Early Life

Masanobu Izumi was born on April 8, 1944, in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. He pursued his education at Meiji University, where he developed his passion for football, eventually leading him to a career in the sport.

Career

Izumi began his professional football journey in 1967 when he joined the Japanese Regional Leagues club Toyota Motors. His tenure at the club was marked by significant achievements, including the promotion of Toyota Motors to Japan Soccer League Division 1 in 1972 and Division 2 in 1973. He played as a forward and continued with the club until his retirement in 1976.

In addition to his club career, Izumi made his mark on the international stage. He debuted for the Japan national football team on March 25, 1965, during a match against Singapore, which Japan won. However, after graduating from university, he faced challenges in being selected for the national team due to his club's status, which did not compete in the Japan Soccer League.

Coaching Career

After hanging up his boots, Izumi transitioned into management, taking the helm at Toyota Motors. Unfortunately, his coaching stint was short-lived, as the team finished in last place, resulting in relegation to Division 2. Despite this setback, his contributions to Japanese football as both a player and a manager remain noteworthy.
