Mitsuhisa Taguchi

Early Life

Mitsuhisa Taguchi was born on February 14, 1955, in Akita, Japan. He developed a passion for football at a young age, which led him to pursue a career in the sport. After graduating from high school, he joined Mitsubishi Motors in 1973, marking the beginning of a significant chapter in his life.

Career

Taguchi's professional career took off when he joined the Urawa Red Diamonds, where he played from 1973 to 1984. During his time with the club, he achieved remarkable success, including winning the Japan Soccer League and the Emperor's Cup in his debut year. He quickly established himself as a key player, becoming the starting goalkeeper for the Japan men's national football team in 1975, replacing the established Kenzo Yokoyama. Taguchi was instrumental in the national team's journey, participating in the 1978 World Cup qualification and the 1980 Summer Olympics qualification. He played a total of 59 games for Japan until 1984 and was recognized as Best Eleven eight times, including seven consecutive years from 1977 to 1983.

Coaching and Legacy

After retiring from professional football in 1984, Taguchi transitioned into coaching, sharing his expertise with high school teams, including Aomori Yamada High School and Kokusai Gakuin High School. His contributions to Japanese football were significant, both on and off the field. Tragically, Mitsuhisa Taguchi passed away on November 12, 2019, in Tokyo due to respiratory failure, leaving behind a legacy as one of Japan's notable football figures.
