Musashi Suzuki

Early Life

Musashi Suzuki was born in Jamaica to a Jamaican father, Robert Hamilton, and a Japanese mother, Mariko. Although he was born in Jamaica, he was raised in Ōta, Japan. Growing up as a person of mixed heritage, Suzuki faced challenges, including racial abuse, which deeply affected him during his childhood. He once expressed a desire to change his skin color, but his mother encouraged him to embrace his identity, saying, "I like the color you are, Musashi."

Career

Suzuki's football journey began at Kiryu Daiichi High School, where he played for the school football club and helped the team reach the All Japan High School Soccer Tournament in 2011. After graduating in 2012, he signed a professional contract with Albirex Niigata, making his debut on April 4, 2012, in a J. League Cup match against Shimizu S-Pulse. He scored his first goal for the club in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Omiya Ardija.

Over the years, Suzuki has played for several clubs, including Mito HollyHock, Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo, and K Beerschot VA. In 2022, he joined Gamba Osaka, and in December 2023, he was announced on loan to Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo. His international career is notable as well; he represented Japan at various youth levels, including the under-17 and under-23 teams, and made his senior debut in 2019 against Colombia. He was part of the Japan under-23 team that won the 2016 AFC U23 Championship and participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
