Formation

NAC Breda, a prominent Dutch professional football club, was established on September 19, 1912, through the merger of two local clubs, ADVENDO and NOAD. The founding meeting was marked by tension over the club's name, with NOAD advocating for their name to be retained. Ultimately, the name NAC, standing for NOAD ADVENDO Combinatie, was chosen, allowing the club to begin its journey in the world of football. Initially, the NVB (Dutch Football Association) denied NAC the right to play association football, but by October 28, 1912, they were granted permission to compete in the 2nd Southern Division.

Early Success and Challenges

The early years were challenging for NAC, but a move to a new stadium, 't Ploegske, marked a turning point. The club quickly rose to prominence in the Southern Division, becoming champions in 1919 and earning a spot in the Dutch Champions' Competition. Although they finished last in that competition, NAC's reputation grew, especially after a notable 4-0 victory against Real Madrid CF in 1920, earning them the nickname "Los muchachos del Breda, maestros del futbol". The pinnacle of their early success came in 1921 when NAC won their first national championship.

Honours and Legacy

Throughout its history, NAC Breda has achieved significant milestones, including winning the KNVB Cup in 1973 and the Eerste Divisie title in 2000. The club has also seen promotions back to the Eredivisie, with notable seasons in 2017 and 2024. NAC's legacy is further highlighted by their nine Eerste Klasse titles, showcasing their long-standing presence in Dutch football. Today, NAC continues to compete in the Eerste Divisie, playing at the Rat Verlegh Stadium, named after their legendary player Antoon 'Rat' Verlegh.
