Early Life

Ryuzo Shimizu was born on September 30, 1902, in Japan. He pursued his education at Tokyo Aoyama Normal School, where he graduated and laid the foundation for his future in football. His time at the school was significant, as it was also where he would later join a football club formed by his fellow alumni.

Career

Shimizu began his professional football career with Tokyo Shukyu-Dan, a club established by graduates of his alma mater. His skills as a forward quickly earned him recognition, leading to his selection for the Japan national football team in 1923. In May of that year, he made his international debut during the Far Eastern Championship Games held in Osaka. In a historic match against the Philippines on May 23, Shimizu scored the first goal for Japan in an International A Match, marking a significant milestone in Japanese football history. Despite Japan losing both matches in the tournament, Shimizu's contributions were notable, as he played two games and scored one goal for his country.
