Seishiro Shimatani

Early Life

Seishiro Shimatani was born on November 6, 1938, in Kyoto, Japan. He pursued his education at Kansai University, where he developed his passion for football, eventually leading him to represent the university's team.

National Team Career

Shimatani made his debut for the Japan national football team on January 11, 1959, while still a student at Kansai University, in a match against Singapore. This marked the beginning of his journey in professional football, showcasing his skills as a defender.

Club Career

In 1961, Shimatani joined JEF United Chiba, where he played until 1965. During this time, he contributed to the team's efforts in the newly formed Japan Soccer League. After leaving JEF United, he returned to his roots and played for Kyoto Shiko, his local club, which later became known as Kyoto Purple Sanga. His club career was marked by his defensive prowess and commitment to the game.

Coaching Career and Legacy

After retiring as a player, Shimatani transitioned into coaching, taking the helm at Kyoto Shiko in 1972. He led the team through its first season in the Japan Soccer League Division 2 after their promotion. He returned to manage the club again in 1977 but resigned following a relegation in 1978. In 1994, he briefly managed Kyoto Purple Sanga before stepping down in September. Shimatani's contributions to Japanese football were significant, and he passed away on October 24, 2001, in Kyoto due to cirrhosis, leaving behind a legacy in both playing and coaching roles in the sport.
