Sergei Aleinikov

Early Life

Sergei Yevgenyevich Aleinikov was born in Minsk, Belarusian SSR, where he began his journey in football. His early passion for the sport led him to join FC Dinamo Minsk in 1981, where he quickly made a name for himself by winning the USSR championship in his second season.

Career

Aleinikov's professional career spanned over a decade, during which he played as a midfielder known for his stamina, intelligence, and tactical sense. He represented the Soviet Union national football team from 1984 to 1991, earning 73 caps and scoring six goals. Notably, he was part of the squad that reached the final of Euro 1988, where they faced the Netherlands. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, he played for the CIS national team and later for the Belarus national team, earning four caps.

His club career included stints at prestigious teams such as Juventus FC, where he won the UEFA Cup and Coppa Italia in 1990, and US Lecce. He also played in Japan for Gamba Osaka and concluded his playing days at IK Oddevold in Sweden in 1996. In recognition of his contributions to football, he was named the Golden Player of Belarus in 2003, celebrating his status as the most outstanding player from the country over the past 50 years.

Coaching and Personal Life

After retiring from professional play, Aleinikov transitioned into coaching, taking the helm of amateur team Kras during the 2007-08 season and returning for a second stint in 2011. On the personal front, he has a son, Artur, born in 1991, who followed in his father's footsteps as a midfielder, showcasing the family's enduring connection to the sport.
