Shōgo Taniguchi

Early Life

Shōgo Taniguchi was born in Kumamoto, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. He began his football journey at Tsukuba University, where he honed his skills and developed a passion for the sport that would shape his future.

Career

Taniguchi's professional career took off in 2014 when he joined Kawasaki Frontale. Over the next nine years, he became a key player for the club, making a remarkable 377 appearances and helping the team secure the J1 League Trophy four times in 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2021. In 2022, he announced his departure from Kawasaki Frontale and signed with Al Rayyan in Qatar, where he scored his first goal on April 24, 2024, in a 4–1 victory against Al Ahli. Later, on July 19, 2024, he moved to Belgium to play for Sint-Truiden, marking a new chapter in his career. He quickly made an impact, scoring his first goal for the club on September 21, 2024, in a 3–0 win against Beerschot.

Taniguchi's international career began when he was called up to the Japan national team in 2015. He participated in the 2015 EAFF East Asian Cup and was later selected for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. His dedication to the national team continued as he was named in the 26-man squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Personal Life

In addition to his football career, Taniguchi's personal life has also garnered attention. On June 25, 2025, he married actress Rika Izumi, marking a significant milestone in his life outside of football.
