Formation

Stade de Reims, a prominent French professional football club, was founded in 1910 under the name Société Sportive du Parc Pommery, guided by Marquis Melchior de Polignac, who later served on the International Olympic Committee. The club adopted its current name on June 18, 1931, and initially remained an amateur club until 1935, when it won the Championnat de France amateur under the leadership of Scotsman Billy Aitken.

Rise to Prominence

The club reached Division 1 for the first time in the 1945–46 season, marking a significant milestone in its history as it was the first championship following World War II. During this period, Reims promoted defender Robert Jonquet to the senior team and signed Roger Marche, both of whom became iconic figures in the club's legacy. In 1949, Reims clinched its first Division 1 championship, led by a formidable lineup that included Marche, Jonquet, and Armand Penverne, along with midfielders Albert Batteux and Michel Leblond, and a talented striker trio of Pierre Flamion, Pierre Sinibaldi, and Pierre Bini.

Achievements and Legacy

Following their league victory, Reims won the Coupe de France in the 1949-50 season, defeating Racing Paris 2–1 in the final. The club's success continued under the management of Batteux, who took over after Henri Roessler's departure, leading to the acquisition of stars like Raymond Kopa and Raoul Giraudo. Reims' influence in French football is marked by its early successes and the development of legendary players, solidifying its place in the annals of the sport.
