Career

Watanabe began his professional journey in 1995 when he joined Kashiwa Reysol. He quickly established himself as a regular player, contributing significantly to the team's success. Notably, in 1999, he played a pivotal role in the J.League Cup, scoring a crucial equalizer in the final match, which led to his selection as the tournament's MVP. Under his influence, Kashiwa Reysol also secured third place in the J1 League in both 1999 and 2000. Watanabe continued to play for the club until his retirement at the end of the 2004 season.

In addition to his club career, Watanabe made his mark on the international stage. He debuted for the Japan national team on August 13, 1997, in a match against Brazil, representing his country with pride during his brief tenure with the national squad.
