Tatsuhiko Seta was born on January 15, 1952, in Morioka, Japan. He developed a passion for football early in life, which led him to pursue a career in the sport after graduating from high school.
Club Career
Seta began his professional career in 1970 when he joined Hitachi, a club that would later become known as Kashiwa Reysol. During his time with the team, he achieved significant success, helping them secure the Japan Soccer League championship and the Emperor's Cup in 1972. He continued to contribute to the club's victories, including winning the Emperor's Cup again in 1975 and the JSL Cup in 1976. Over his career, Seta played a total of 164 league games and was recognized as a Best Eleven player in both 1972 and 1976. After retiring in 1980, he returned to Kashiwa Reysol in 1982 as a playing-coach, although he did not participate in any matches before retiring again in 1986.
National Team Career
Seta's international career began in May 1973 when he was selected for the Japan national team for the 1974 World Cup qualification. He made his debut on May 22, 1973, against Hong Kong. Seta was a key player for Japan, serving as the regular goalkeeper during the 1976 Summer Olympics qualification and participating in the 1974 Asian Games. He played a total of 25 matches for the national team until 1980, marking the end of his international career with a return to the pitch for the 1980 Summer Olympics qualification after a four-year hiatus.
