Early Life

Teiichi Matsumaru was born on February 28, 1909, in Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan. He grew up in a vibrant environment that fostered his passion for sports, particularly football. His academic journey led him to Keio University, where he not only excelled in his studies but also developed his football skills, eventually becoming a key player for the university's football team.

Club Career

Matsumaru's professional career began with Keio BRB, a club formed by players and graduates of Keio University. During his time with the team, he achieved significant success, winning the Emperor's Cup in both 1932 and 1936. His talent on the field was further showcased when he played for the Tokyo OB Club, where he won another Emperor's Cup in 1933 alongside notable players like Shigemaru Takenokoshi and Shiro Teshima.

National Team Career

In May 1934, Matsumaru earned a spot on the Japan national football team for the Far Eastern Championship Games held in Manila. He made his debut on May 13, 1934, against the Dutch East Indies and went on to play in three matches during the tournament, also facing teams from the Philippines and the Republic of China. His contributions to the national team were a testament to his skill and dedication to the sport.

Legacy

Teiichi Matsumaru passed away on January 6, 1997, at the age of 87. His legacy in Japanese football was solidified when he was inducted into the Japan Football Hall of Fame in 2015, honoring his contributions to the sport and his remarkable career as a player.
