He then moved to Lillestrøm SK for a brief period in 1988 before embarking on a more extensive career abroad. Over the years, he played for several clubs, including Fredrikstad FK, SK Brann, and IFK Göteborg, where he honed his skills and established himself as a reliable defender. His international career was equally impressive, representing the Norway national team from 1990 to 1999, earning 45 caps.

His club career also included stints in various leagues, such as the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt and the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers.
