Tsutomu Sonobe was born on March 29, 1958, in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. His journey into the world of football began after he graduated from high school, when he joined Fujita Industries in 1976. This marked the start of a significant career in Japanese football.

Career

Sonobe played as a defender and had a notable club career with Shonan Bellmare from 1976 to 1989. During his time with the club, he contributed to their success, helping them secure league championships in 1977, 1979, and 1981, as well as winning the Emperor's Cup in 1977 and 1979. Over his career, he played 173 league games and scored 2 goals, earning recognition as a Best Eleven player in 1978 and 1979.

In addition to his club achievements, Sonobe also represented the Japan men's national football team from 1978 to 1981. He made his debut on May 23, 1978, in a match against Thailand and went on to play 7 games for his country until 1981. His contributions to the national team further solidified his status as a prominent figure in Japanese football history.
