Professional Era
In July 1930, a significant change occurred when the National Council of the French Football Federation voted to support professionalism in French football. Valenciennes achieved professional status in 1933 and was placed in the second division, becoming a founding member of this league. In their inaugural season, they finished 7th in their group, and the following year, they secured promotion to Division 1 by finishing 2nd in the league table. During this period, the club featured notable players, including Englishmen Peter O'Dowd and George Gibson, as well as German-born attackers Édouard Waggi and Ignace Kowalczyk.
