Suzuki began his professional journey in football after graduating from high school, joining Yanmar Diesel in 1978. As a goalkeeper, he faced tough competition for the starting position, often serving as the reserve behind Kazumi Tsubota. Despite limited playing time, he contributed to the team's success, helping Yanmar Diesel secure the league championship in 1980. Over his four years with the club, he made a total of 8 league appearances before retiring in 1982.
In addition to his club career, Suzuki represented Japan on the international stage. He was selected for the Japan U-20 national team in 1979, participating in the World Youth Championship and playing in three matches. His senior debut for the Japan national team came in December 1980 during the World Cup qualification against Singapore, where he played four games in total.
