Yayoi Kobayashi was born on September 18, 1981, in Tama, Japan. From a young age, she showed a passion for football, which would lead her to a remarkable career in the sport.

Career

Kobayashi's professional journey began when she joined Nippon TV Tokyo Verdy Beleza in 1997. Over her 18-season tenure with the club, she made a significant impact, playing 223 matches in the L.League. Her contributions helped the team secure the L.League championship title eight times and finish as runners-up ten times. Notably, she was the top scorer in the 2000 season and earned a spot in the Best Eleven in both 2000 and 2001.

In addition to her club success, Kobayashi made her mark on the international stage. She debuted for the Japan women's national football team on March 24, 1999, at just 17 years old, scoring a goal against France. Throughout her international career, she represented Japan in the 1999 and 2003 World Cups, as well as the 2004 Summer Olympics. She also participated in the 2001 and 2003 AFC Championships and the 2002 Asian Games, ultimately playing 54 matches and scoring 12 goals for her country until 2004.
