Yuji Sakakura

Early Life

Yuji Sakakura is a former Japanese football player and manager, known for his contributions to the sport both on and off the field. He began his football journey at Yokkaichi Chuo Kogyo High School before advancing to Juntendo University, where he honed his skills and prepared for a professional career.

Playing Career

Sakakura's professional career kicked off in 1990 when he joined JEF United Chiba, then known as Furuawa Electric. He played as a defender and made a significant impact in the Japan Soccer League. In 1995, he transferred to Nagoya Grampus Eight, where he continued to develop his reputation as a solid defender. After a brief stint at Brummell Sendai in 1996, he concluded his playing career in 1998 with Mind House TC, a club in his hometown.

Sakakura also represented the Japan national team, earning six caps between 1990 and 1991. His international debut came during the Dynasty Cup against South Korea in Beijing, and he was part of the squad that celebrated victory in the 1992 Asian Cup, although he did not play in the tournament.

Coaching Career

Transitioning from player to coach, Sakakura began his coaching career at Yokohama FC in 1999, where he served until 2004, including a brief period as caretaker manager. He later coached the U-18 team at Kyoto Sanga FC and took on various coaching roles at Tochigi SC and Shimizu S-Pulse. In 2018, he became the manager of AC Nagano Parceiro, showcasing his commitment to developing the next generation of football talent in Japan.
