Yumi Tomei is a former Japanese association football player known for her contributions to women's football in Japan. Born in Japan, she developed a passion for the sport early on, which led her to pursue a career in football.

Career

Tomei's professional career spanned twelve years, during which she played as a defender for Iga FC Kunoichi Mie, formerly known as Prima Ham FC Kunoichi, from 1988 to 2000. During her time with the club, she achieved significant success, helping the team secure the L.League championship in both 1995 and 1999. Her outstanding performances earned her a spot in the Best Eleven five times between 1994 and 1999, highlighting her status as one of the top players in the league.

On the international stage, Tomei was selected for the Japan women's national football team in December 1993, making her debut shortly after against the Philippines during the 1993 AFC Championship. She represented Japan in several prestigious tournaments, including the 1995 and 1999 FIFA Women's World Cups and the 1996 Summer Olympics, accumulating a total of 43 caps and scoring 6 goals for her country by the time she retired in 1999.
